Back in the dark ages of the internet, it wasn't possible to control how web pages looked.

But then one day Håkon Wium Lie came up with the idea of CSS, and the web was transformed.

CSS actually stands for Cascading Style Sheets, but that doesn't matter. Same way you it doesn't really matter what HTML or HTTP stands for.

The important thing is CSS gives you precise control over appearance.
